| | | Since the founding of EBA, each member country is investigating how to provide their technical nautical service. One of the goals of the EBA is to improve the nautical service environment for a boatman.
One of the improvements is making a standard education program for boatmen all over Europe. Many countries do have a severe education program for all boatmen in their own country.
Another improvement is the attempt from all countries to generalize the equipment needed to perform our profession.
In 2007 the Italian and Dutch boatmen practiced this initiative for mutual training and education.
As from 24th of March 2009 the Scottish boatmen from the River Clyde are doing a training course with the Dutch boatmen, in regard to work with the so called winchtrucks. This equipment is manufactured by the Dutch boatmen with European experience, in order to be able to supply a high quality in our services.
The goal is to get a qualified standard of education for a boatman in Europe as well as for the equipment.
Almost all member countries improved their services by using a winchtruck.
This innovative investment attends a more safe and faster mooring and unmooring operation. Also complicated moorings due to a lack of mooring space becomes possible, back injuries of a boatman will be reduced, as well as the risks exposed to their boatmen, and will ensure that high standards of service are delivered to their customers.
About Clyde Marine Services in Scotland:
Clyde Marine joined the EBA in the mid 1970's, however due to a reduction in work caused by port privatisations in the UK during the early 1980's terminated their membership thereafter.
Having re-joined the EBA three years ago, Clyde Marine are keen to see standards of training and education for boatmen established in the EU, and are convinced that there is a requirement for a standard education for boatmen.
Clyde Marine have been accredited to ISO9001:2000 for 14 years, and are working towards OHSAS18001 accreditation towards the end of summer 2009.
